Tomorrow I Will... by Keith Cook
"Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that." James 4:14, 15
We all say it. We all have tried it. We have put off till tomorrow what we should be doing today. We avoid making hard decisions till tomorrow. We put off making that painful phone call and save it for another day. We may even think that we have more time to do that good thing. Call a mother, share with a friend, or attend that youth football game that your son may not even get to play in.
Tomorrow, may actually be too late. As I think about all the things I have been able to do since my near tragic car accident four years ago, I praise God that I did have a few more tomorrows! When I think of how my dear friend Phil was almost on one of the flights that the terrorists took down on September 11, I thank God that he has had a few more tomorrows.
Yet, many people go to work, go home, go to sleep, and count on having another day to finish what they started yesterday. What if that day never came? What if you only had one more day, this day, to live and then your life was all over?
What would you want to do?
What would you like to finish?
What would you want to settle?
What would you want to make sure of?
You see one day we actually will have our last day. One day we will move from this life into eternity. We will leave many things undone and we will have many things settled.
We can leave behind a dirty house. We can leave behind an empty refrigerator.
But, can we leave behind unfinished spiritual business? Can we leave loved ones to worry about our eternal destination? Can we leave this life and face God in the shape we are presently in?
I believe there are four things we need to make sure we handle before we let another day end.
1. Each of us need to make sure of our relationship with Christ! If you are in doubt please make sure all is well and that you have actually admitted that you are a sinner, believed that Jesus is the only way to Heaven and that you have asked Jesus to be your personal Savior. You can honestly and sincerely pray and ask for God's forgiveness and for His provision of Christ to be applied to your life right now.
2. Each of us need to make sure of our personal relationships with our friends and families. Everyone you know needs to know that you love them and are proud that they have been a part of your life. Now is not the time to hold grudges and to be angry or mad at anyone. Do not let the sun go down on your wrath. We are not assured of tomorrow!
3. Each of us need to leave behind a legacy of love, faith, hope, and integrity. You can start on this right now. Ask for forgiveness from those you have wronged. Begin to do good and to stand for what is right. Get involved in mission and outreach opportunities with other Christians. If you have no outlets for service please contact us at On The Go and we will help you find out what you can do for God in your area and around the World.
4. Each of us needs to relax and trust God to take care of our every need and rest confidently in His love and care. If it is your last day, God knows. If you leave behind friends and family, God knows. It will not catch Him by surprise. Trust Him, relax. Enjoy today. Make the most of what you have been given. Today!
