"Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus" Philippians 2:5
Yesterday we looked at how not to be a servant and today we are going to look at how to be a servant. If you look at the seven words that represent how not to serve Christ and just do the opposite you will be well on your way to being a servant God can use. Pride, credit, comparison, covet, neglect, avoidance, and casual are all words that represent the bad features of servantless lives. The path to service includes all of the following:
1. Humbleness - Pride does keep us from serving God and others but being humble gets us in a position of being used by God to do great things.
2. Teamwork - While wanting credit neutralizes our effectiveness in serving others, serving with a spirit of teamwork helps everyone get their mission done.
3. Complementing - Looking at others and how they serve or work slows and limits our own service, but complementing and noticing the good that others do and allowing that to motivate us to greatness helps God use us to our maximum potential.
4. Promoting - Coveting others positions or titles hurts our servanthood but promoting others and helping them succeed is the ultimate picture of a servant leader.
5. Professionalism - Being professional and getting right to a task helps us not serve others too slow and cause undue pain and suffering.
6. Acceptance - Not doing God's will produces godless results but accepting the Lord's path of servanthood spirit filled results.
7. Commitment - Not putting forth your best effort is not pleasing to God and actually hurts the image of Christ in our society but a totally committed Christian doing the work of Christ always makes an impact in a neighborhood.
While our service is a God thing it is clothed in flesh and bones. You are the only Jesus some people will ever see.
