Gain

 Gain by Keith Cook

But godliness with contentment is great gain: 1 Timothy 6:6

What's in it for me?

What will I gain from this?

What do I get out of it?

Why would I want to do that?

I want to make all the money I can so I can do missions one day!

If only I did not have so much debt, I would do something great for God.

Do any of these statements sound familiar? These questions and rationalizations float in and out of our rational brains quite often. While it is not a sin to have questions - questions can lead to sin if our thoughts are not given over to Christ.

It is always costly to give of ones self and meet the needs of others. Missionaries down through the ages have sacrificed comforts, conveniences, cares, and criticism to do the work of the Lord. But it does not take a full time missionary to live the Christian life in power and purpose. You can gain in this life if you gain with God's standard of measure.

What is God's standard of Gain?

1. God measures greatness by character rather than commotion. Just doing something for God does not make one great. Being a man of God, man of prayer, and man of faith is judged not by outward activities but in the secret closet of ones intentions, heart's desires, and motives.

2. God gives favor and blessing based on His ultimate plan for mankind over heredity or status. You do not gain in God's sight because you are born wealthy or have been educated at Oxford. You see the favor of God because you have become His child and have a mission to do on His behalf.

3. God gives gain to those He can trust. Can God trust you with success? Can He trust you with wealth and fame? Many Christians enter into ministry for Christ full of dreams and visions and quickly start working for their glory and their self esteem. Let the Holy Spirit lead you as you handle the Holy Vessels of God. Your message and mission is His message and mission. It is to be all about Him and all for Him!

4. God gives gain to those who will give it away. "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose." - Jim Elliott. Now is the time for selfless living and selfless giving. God may ask you for your wealth. He may ask you for your life. He may only demand more of your time. But - he will find the areas of your life that are not totally His and begin to work on them. Commit to give God all your life. Hold back nothing. Whatever He asks of you respond - Here I am send me! Whatever sacrifice He requires respond - As Christ gave His life for me I give my life for you.

To gain with God may I offer the following to-do items:

1 Begin to develop character by being what you say you are.

2. Spend time with God in order to know His will for your life.

3. In prayer deal with unconfessed sin and areas of pride that can destroy your effectiveness and value to Christ.

4. Write down what you hear God telling you to do. Keep a record of all you plan or desire to do under His direction. Keep yourself accountable to God by remembering all you have promised.

Daily Prayer Focus: Pray that God will enable you to maintain a Godly focus so that you can continue to reach out effectively for Him.

Witnessing to Homeless, Street People, Disaster Stricken, and Addicts

Witnessing to Homeless, Street People, Disaster Stricken, and Addicts by Keith Cook

"But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:" 1 Peter 3:15

On the afternoon of January 12, 2010 an earthquake registering 7.0 hit the nation of Haiti and over 200,000 people died as result. This nation has been hit with natural disasters, physical illness, political unrest, and financial decline. Since the earthquake, volunteers have been led to Haiti to help Haitians living in Tent Cities, without clean water, and facing multiple physical ailments find hope, medical assistance, and shelter.

Servants of Jesus Christ must be able to go to where the people are and they must arrive prepared to minister to people who find themselves in many unique and often difficult situations.

As you seek to be led by the Spirit, you will find yourself needing to arrive prepared to minister and comfort real people with real problems. Here are some simple suggestions for ministering to hurting people.

1. Be Alert - Pay attention to outward signs of neglect, abuse, need, problems.

2. Don't Play God - Don't run ahead of God, or try to fix all their problems in the flesh. Hear from God and follow His direction. Guard your heart and your emotions. Allow God to direct you, not your circumstances or emotions.

3. Focus On First Things First - Focus on one physical need and one spiritual need at a time.

4. Get Real Help - Don't get in over your head. It is not a sin to use professionals and agencies that will provide total ministry.

5. Do Not judge- Make sure that you do not judge them or on the other hand condone any of their past actions or problems. Speak a word about Jesus or meet a need.

6. Make Sure You Minister - If God has placed you in this situation you are there to minister to them. Be bold and sensitive at the same time.

7. Be Realistic - Expect difficulties. Expect abuse, confrontations, questions, misjudging your motives, and don't be surprised, if they even seem suspicious.

8. Be Spiritually Prepared - Know what you believe and what the Bible has to say about sin, love, forgiveness, addictions, hope, recovery, reconciliation, and the consequences of sin.

9. Be Smart - If you are sharing with a church group or outreach team remember to stay close to your group, and in any kind of helping hand or spiritual counselling situation, do not allow yourself to get alone with strangers or in a dangerous situation.

10. It's A God Thing - Expect God to show up and do a work in the person's life-physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Daily Prayer Focus: Pray that you will be prepared to minister to people as they experience unique and difficult situations.

On The Go Prayer Focus: The physical, spiritual, emotional, and financial needs of people hurting all over the United States and Worldwide. As God gives us opportunity in times of crisis we need to rapidly move to help.

Don't Rob God

Don't Rob God by Laurie McTier

"Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it." Malachi 3:10 (KJV)

The beginning of each New Year gives us an opportunity to reflect on the past and make projections and goals that we would like to see achieved within the next 365 days. As I sat down and made my own New Year's resolutions, God brought something to my attention. How many times do I withhold my talents and gifts, tithes, and sometimes even my own schedule from God.

The time I had set aside to make goals now became a time of confession and renewal as I realized I had robbed God of things that belonged to him. As I had my quiet time this afternoon, I made a new commitment to be available to God, and not to rob Him by withholding things from Him.

This year, God wants to bless you. He wants to guide every step and every decision that you make. He wants to use you to make an impact for His Kingdom and His Glory. If we withhold things from Him, He can not pour out His blessings and power in our life as He desires to. If we hold back, we are limiting God.

You may be thinking, "I would never rob God." The truth is, each of us have been guilty and when we are, we probably don't even realize we are doing it.

"Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings." Malachi 3:18

God deserves our first fruit. As we give to God, He will in return bless us more abundantly. I think that each of us could stand to take Malachi 3:10 and accept it as a challenge for this new year. Bring God everything you have. Entrust Him with the things that are most precious to you, and as you yield them to God for His service, He will pour out a blessing, much more than we could ever imagine.

Daily Prayer Focus: Lord, help me today to entrust you with everything. I yield all that I have to you.

On The Go Prayer Focus: On The Go's Neighborhood Outreach Program. In reality, very little is being done to reach people in many communities across the USA. On The Go is striving to train local Christians and help them develop programs that can systematically and permanently reach real needs in their neighborhoods.

Live On The Highest Plain

Live On The Highest Plain by Keith Cook

"Let every valley be lifted up and every mountain and hill be made low and let the rough ground become a plain" Isaiah 40:4

Every Christian is called by Christ to submit to his leading each and every day and live to their fullest potential. This year God wants you to excel in every area of your life. Mentally keep the pressure on yourself to live up to all that God is calling you to do, stop, start, try, dream, and explore.

Many people take the easy way out and quickly fall behind all their New Year's resolutions. They give into their lowest expectations for their lives and live by a possible lifestyle and neglect Christ's impossible challenge's. The supernatural power of the Holy Spirit is neglected and replaced by probable thinking and reactionary living.

Decide today to live up to God's expectation of what you should be doing this year. It will provide a great view. A view from the "Highest Plain!"

Daily Prayer Focus; Pray that you will live up to God's expectations for this new year, 2022.

On The Go Prayer Focus: The "On The Go Daily" 2 Minute Radio & Podcast Program. This is a daily program airing across the United States, and World via the internet and radio stations. Cruise Directors, Parents, and God

Cruise Directors, Parents, and God by Keith Cook

"And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest." Exodus 33:14

Recently several couples and our friends joined my wife and I on a spectacular cruise around the Caribbean Islands. It was such a joy to relax and rest with good Christian friends.

We did not have to worry about anything. Joan could lounge by the pool onboard soaking up sun rays and I could work out in the health spa trying to work off the many calories I was ingesting each day by being able to eat as often and as much as I wanted.

The cruise director had games planned for each hour. There were special theme meals and nights, parades on board, concerts by famous musician and comedians, as well as fun shore excursions.

I loved having everything paid for in advance and not having to think about anything. It sort of reminded me of my childhood. No worries, no stress, no pressure. Everything was taken care of by my parents. Parents and cruise directors have almost the same task. They both want you to be happy, have fun, be safe, and get the most out of each day.

Your personal relationship with Jesus Christ should almost be the same way. He too wants you to be happy, have fun, be safe, and get the most out of each day. Why not follow His direction today and everyday. He wants to lead you and protect you. He also wants to challenge and inspire you in your walk with Him.

Take a cruise on the Gospel Ship and let Jesus be your guide!

Daily Prayer Focus: Lord help me today to rest in You. Help me to take time to be still and know that You are God.

On The Go Prayer Focus: On The Go's GoKids Clubs. The focus of GoKids Clubs is to present a clear Gospel message to young children in our festivals, missions, and local neighborhoods. Pray for On The Go as we minister to boys and girls and share with them the love of Jesus Christ.

Jellyfish

 Jellyfish by Keith Cook

"Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil."  1 Thessalonians 5:21, 22

One night while sitting in my room onboard a cruise ship, one of my friends called me and with an excited voice said, "Go quick to your balcony and look out at the ocean. There are jellyfish everywhere!"

So I quickly ran to the door, and rushed out onto the balcony and peered over into the vast ocean below. I was riding on the largest cruise ship in the world so I had to look close to actually see the creatures in the ocean. But sure enough there were thousands of them. Every ripple made by our ship stirred up hundreds in our wake. It was fascinating to see so many of them. They looked so beautiful and peaceful.

Just looking at these sea creatures from above the water poses no threat, but as I was standing there my body shivered at the thought of falling in and being caught in the middle of such dangerous creatures. I have been stung by jellyfish while swimming in the ocean and their sting can really hurt.

Many of the things of this world look harmless from a distance and their beauty often attracts many to dive in and participate. But once the leap has been made the sting of the habit or the consequences of the action hits hard.

Be ware of the dangers of life. Look carefully before leaping into unknown situations.

Daily Prayer Focus: Pray that God will protect you from the dangers of the deep and the stings of sin.

Stingray City

 Stingray City by Keith Cook

"Beware of the Devil"  "He sneaks around...looking for those he can devour."  I Peter 5:8

Recently I was in the Grand Caymans scuba diving in just 12 feet of water. I am use to diving down to 100 feet and beyond, so the dive should have been safe and worry free.

The setting was beautiful. I knew the dive was going to be very exciting because I was with 39 of my friends and we were going to be surrounded by stingrays. Stingrays are wonderful sea creatures. While they have a fierce reputation, experienced divers can navigate quite safely underwater with them.

On the dive boat just before the dive the Dive Master gave us detailed instructions about diving with the stingrays. He said, "Be careful when feeding them." "Feed the rays but watch for smaller fish that may come in and try to steal the food."

When I finally could jump in the water I landed on top of a 10 foot Eel. I quickly said hello and put as much distance between it and myself as possible.

Once I was on the bottom of the ocean I was able to feed the stingrays. I was so excited. They were all around me. I was caught up in the moment. There was one stingray feeding out of my hand, one gliding under my feet and one at each side of me. It was scuba diving heaven.

Then out of nowhere a small Snapper Fish swam in and stole the food I had for the stingrays. It happened so fast. I was amazed. The fish actually bit my hand in order to get me to drop the bait and then snapped up the food.

In a spiritual sense this is just like the Devil, who hits us hard in one area of our lives in order to get us to drop our guard and then he sneaks into another area of our lives almost unnoticed. He then waits and looks for another opportunity to rob us of our joy or steal a blessing from us.

Daily Prayer Focus: Put on the Armor of God and pray that you will be aware of Satan's tricks. Pray that you will stand firmly in Christ.

On The Go Prayer Focus: On The GoAudio Podcasts and Radio Ministries. Currently we are producing various programs which go over the internet and international airwaves. Out of Control

Out of Control by Joan Cook

"Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour."  1 Peter 5:8

Have you ever felt like you were out of control?  It's not a good feeling to have.

When you are out of control, you are giving in to your feelings and choosing not to trust God.  We feel out of control when we are in a situation that doesn't go our way or the way we think it should. We may also feel out of control when we feel there is nothing we can do about a situation.

Having self-control does not mean that we are saying WE are in control - just the opposite - it's saying that God is in control of my life, therefore I will submit to the way He wants me to live and act. I will trust Him to handle things the way He sees fit.

Sometimes, we may be out of control in our emotions. It's hard not to live by our feelings.  But we can not let our feelings and emotions dictate our mood and our actions.  We should not let our emotions dictate our mood or how we act or respond to others.  How many times how you ever said, "I don't feel like it"  or "Leave me alone, I'm in a bad mood"?  We all have times when we don't feel like doing things, but it's when we make it a pattern that is becomes a problem.

When we do this, we're choosing to let our emotions rule.  We can never base our actions on how we feel - feelings come from our depravity, our sinful nature -We must die to self and walk in the spirit.

"But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control.  Against such things there is no law." Galatians 5:22

Sometimes we may be out of control in our speech. It's hard sometimes to use self-control when there is something we really want to say, even if it may be negative about someone else.

Our words are the main way we convey to others how we feel!  Our words and our body language scream what we like and don't like; what we think or what we know! We have to have self control in our speech!

The tongue "is a restless evil and full of deadly poison." James 3:8

Are you spewing poison?  We can either make others sick by spewing poison or we can help make others healthier by spewing blessings.  Are you spewing poison or blessings on your spouse?  Do you encourage or complain, uplift or put down, be joyful or mad and angry?

"Make the most of your chances to tell others the Good News, be wise in all your contacts with them.  Let your conversation be gracious, as well as sensible, for then you will have the right answer for everyone." Colossians 4:5,6

As you learn self-control, you will practice discipline in every area of your life, especially your time spent with God. Are you having a quiet time with God every day?  This is a time that you spend talking to God and listening to Him speak to you.  Nothing should get in the way of this precious time every day.  Many things will try to encroach upon this time, but as you practice discipline, you will make time for the communion with your Father. Make it happen as if your life depends on it!  Because it does!

Daily Prayer: Give God complete control of your life and submit to the way He wants you to live your life.

Good Morning God

Good Morning God by Keith Cook

"Early the next morning Abraham got up and returned to the place where he had stood before the LORD." Genesis 19:27

When I was just starting out in ministry I read several books by Norman Grubb. He wrote great mission biographies and books on the faith life. His retelling of the lives of great women and men of God inspired me and motivated me to trust God and daily live by faith.

Down through the years he and I talked on the phone and through letters about deep theological matters. He really was a transparent and very spiritual man. I miss him - but his legacy lives on in what he taught me about Christ. I want to pass on some of his insight and wisdom today.

Mr. Grubb had a practice of reciting a simple prayer every morning and he said it changed the way he lived his life. It also changed my life when I first heard it and started praying it myself.

Here is the prayer:

Good Morning God.

What are you up to today?

I want to be a part of it.

May I?

Thank you!

Now I am sure you know why his life and insights inspired me so. Today I think it would be wise and prudent for all of us to pray this simple prayer ourselves. Why not begin to include this simple prayer in your devotional times with God. Of course you can alter it or add to it, but this is a good place to start focusing in on talking with God about the great and small things in your daily life.

May God richly bless you as you find out what God is up to today and join him!

Daily Prayer Focus: Good Morning God. What are you up to today? I want to be a part of it. May I? Thank you!

On The Go Prayer Focus: Joan Cook's "Women On The Go" Ministries. Joan's "Women On The Go" programs are implemented at women's conferences, local churches, retreats, and separate stand-alone events. God has given her a burden to minister to and encourage women in their walk with the Lord. Pray for Joan as she ministers and shares from her heart and as she presents motivational, evangelistic programs, materials, and leadership to and for women that will challenge and motivate them to a deeper walk with the Lord.

What Is Going On

What Is Going On by Keith Cook

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9

Living in this world is getting really complicated. Countries are arming for war. Tourists are being targeted by terrorists. The news everyday has some sad and depressing story about a parent or authority figure being caught doing something immoral and shameful.

Who can you trust? Who can you rely on? There is only one sure and definite reply, Jesus.

God commands each of us to be strong and have courage. No matter what you face in your life or what you have been through He can be there for you.

He commands us not to be terrified by our culture or society and not to let the things of this world discourage us from living right and doing what we know we should be doing.

Your God and Savior, Jesus Christ will be with you in all your situations. Do not panic. No matter what is going on around you Jesus is right in the middle of it to provide a way out, a way through, or comfort in the midst of the situation. Rejoice in Him today.

Daily Prayer Focus: Pray for those around you who may not have the peace you have to face all that is going on in their lives. Be there for them. Offer the hope you have in Christ.

On The Go Prayer Focus: On The Go's GoCare ministry. This is our acts of kindness and benevolence ministry department. The focus of our GoCare ministry is to reach out to physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of hurting individuals and to build bridges between churches and their communities.

Make an Investment

Make an Investment by Laurie McTier

"Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." Luke 6:38

On January 3, 1994, my father, Bobby Wilkerson, went home to be with the Lord. As I recollect on my dad's life, I am reminded of the legacy that he has left in the hearts of all who knew him.

My father was a big man. He had broad shoulders and a coarse voice, just to see him would deter some of my friends from talking with him. But to those who knew him, deep down inside, my dad was one of the most compassionate men I have ever met. As he saw a need, he did not turn his head, he turned his heart and reached out to make a difference and assist them at the point of their need.

One lesson that my father taught me over and over again was to give and it will be given back to you. Whether we were going on a trip to the grocery or on a family vacation, I'm reminded that every time my father saw a need, he was moved with compassion, and took time to lend a helping hand. It did not matter if he knew the individual or not, he felt it was his duty to give of himself and to help them at their point of need.

In 1993 my dad was diagnosed with brain cancer. At the point of diagnosis, immediately his life changed. For nearly thirty years he had served as an engineer for the railroad. Now with the brain tumor, he could never drive a train again. Matter of fact, he was never able to work again. This devastated him. Our hearts were touched when those to whom he had worked with and reached out to for the past fifty four years of his life saw his need, they began to give back to him. Over the course of the next eight months of his life, his friends and family gave back to him ten-fold.

Every day is a gift from God. We have a choice to honor God in all that we do and seek to make an investment in the lives of others. We have one life, one chance to live this moment. You will never have the opportunity to relive today. Choose today to make a difference in someone's life. You will be glad you did.

Daily Prayer Focus: God, give us sensitivity today to the needs of those around us. May our lives be an investment for your Kingdom work.

On The Go Prayer Focus: On The Go Ministry Supporters. It takes teamwork to make the dream work! Our ministry supporters have made commitments to play a vital part of our team through praying, sharing, caring, going, and growing.

What Does the Lord Require?

What Does the Lord Require? by Joan Cook

When thinking about the New Year and what God would have me do in 2022, I look in the book of Micah 6:8. The Bible tells us, "He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you, but to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?"

1. Do Justice - stand up for the rights of those who can't defend themselves: the orphans, widows, unborn babies. When you know what is right and do not stand up for it, you are not standing up for justice.

2. Love Kindness - It is so easy for us to be kind and show love toward others. Being kind is one of the basic characteristics of a Christian's life.

3. Walk Humbly with God - Humility is valuing others - not making yourself look big by making others look small. Also, acknowledging that God is God and knowing we look to Him for our being.

If we can do these three things in 2022, we will do well! "Do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God".

Daily Prayer Focus: Pray that in 2022, you will do what the Lord requires of you.

On The Go Prayer Focus: The GoTeam Short Term Missions Projects and GoTeam Members. GoTeams are made up of young people and adults who voluntarily go on an On The Go mission project around the world and are making a strategic impact for Christ.

Happy New Year!

 Happy New Year!

All across the globe, people from every language and every country are celebrating the New Year! The Staff at On The Go Ministries would like to wish each of you a very Happy and Prosperous New Year.

Today we would like to take this time to reflect on truths from God's Word. Please read these verses prayerfully and expectantly.

"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end." Jeremiah 29:11

"Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert." Isaiah 43:19

"O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!" Romans 11:33

"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper." Psalm 1:1-3

May God richly bless you today and everyday throughout 2022!

Daily Prayer Focus: Commit this new year to the Lord. Ask God to give you visions and dreams as you seek His focus for the new year.

On The Go Prayer Focus: Keith Cook Crusades, Celebrations, and Festivals. God has given Keith the opportunity and privilege of sharing the message of Christ both stateside and internationally. During each opportunity, Keith presents a joyful and enthusiastic, yet powerful and clear presentation of the Gospel and a call to commitment to Christ.
