Danger Signs

Danger Signs by Laurie McTier

"For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come." 1 Timothy 4:8

In working with young people around the world, I have noticed many of them appear to be more physically fit and have much more energy than I do. A few years ago, I began to notice that on some of our mission projects I was getting sick, fatigued, and unable to finish some of my tasks. Was God placing danger signs in my path? It alarmed and concerned me.

God began to tug at my heart and I sensed He was saying, "Laurie, do you love me?"

My response was, "Yes, Lord, you know that I do."

Then He said, "Laurie, do you want to serve me?"

Again my heart's cry was, "Yes, Lord, you know that I do."

Then the Lord tenderly, lovingly showed me that He still had a plan and purpose for my life, but He needed my help in the area of discipline. He wanted me to give Him total control of every area of my life; not just my work time, not just my prayer time, but specifically in the areas of my finances, health, and social life. He wanted me to be wholly healthy in order to do all that I was commanded by Christ. God was about to set me free!

God led me on this specific area of my life as the Holy Spirit zeroed in on very real needs. He showed me that in order for me to continue to do God's work and travel across the globe, I needed to get in better shape physically, eat better, exercise more, and begin to work at building up my stamina.

Now, with God's help, I am beginning to see His plan in these areas of my life unfold. He has given me a nutrition plan and an exercise plan as well as the strength and endurance to work these plans out in my own life.

This is the day that the Lord has made, choose to run the race that He has for you, live in the center of His will, and complete the tasks that He has given to you today. To God be the glory, great things He has done!  I challenge you today to finish well. When God gives you a task, complete it wholeheartedly and seek to honor Him.

Daily Prayer Focus:  God, open our eyes to areas of our hearts that need to be brought back under your submission. We are your servants, and we want to honor You with all that You have given us.

On The Go Prayer Focus: Cape Town GoTeam as they minister in churches, schools, conferences, communities and festivals.  Pray for open doors for the team to share Christ and for Divine Appointments that many will come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior.

Thank you for taking the time to pray for this important division of On The Go Ministries. For more information on any our ministries here at On The Go, you may send your questions to info@onthego.org.

Is The End Near?

Is The End Near? By Keith Cook

"This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away." 2 Timothy 3:1-5

This is a question millions of people are asking themselves and others. I believe the Bible has an answer for this question. A number of people have asked Joan and me why God is doing things to our country or why He is choosing to demolish everything. (Example: The attack on the World Trade Center, September 11, 2001, terroist bombings, highjacking of airplanes, war, sniper shootings, etc...) My late friend and coworker, James Earle Sr., once said: "Why is it that God seems to have His hand on some and His foot on others?"

Our response is that God is not doing this at all. As Americans, we have asked God to kindly remove Himself from all our schools, our courtrooms, our homes, and our city halls; and God has left us to our own devices. Joan and I believe that God may have removed some of His protection as well.

Thus, these circumstances are not something that God has done to us. It is the result of the sin that came into the world when Adam and Eve chose to disobey God.  All of us inherited that sin, which placed us in the position we are in today. Every person, since Adam and Eve, has been born with an innate tendency toward sin.

Recently, I asked my wife what she would want to tell parents and grandparents who have children and youth who are scared and fearful right now. They are afraid something terrible like a terrorist attack, a sniper incident, or another catastrophic event will happen again. How do they live in faith, not fear?

Joan quickly responded, "While something like this is incredibly alarming and could happen again at any moment, we cannot live our lives in constant fear."

Our son is now in his thirty's and it's scary to think of all the places that we go and how something actually could happen to him or to one or both of us.  But you know what? God is there. God is in the center of everything. He is the center of our lives, and we have to know that He is watching over us. He knows what is going on. He is not watching us from afar, but He is watching over us very closely. He knows every hair on our head, each one closely numbered, He knows everything about us.

We have to realize that as we go about our daily lives trying to serve Him and trying to do what is right that He will be there for us. God is always there and taking care of us every second.

To purchase your own personal copy of his book, please contact On The Go Ministries.)

Daily Prayer: Confess All Known Sin to God.

Also, Pray for your family, your community, your nation that God will draw all men to Himself and that they will turn away from sin and it's captivity.

On The Go Prayer Focus: Evangelism Leadership Institute that Keith and Joan are facilitating in Cape Town this week. Flee From Sin

Flee From Sin by Laurie McTier

"Abstain from all appearance of evil." 1 Thessalonians 5:22

Sin is anything that goes against the heart of God. God's desire for each of His children is holiness and purity. We show our love for God by our obedience and service to Him.

There are two types of sins.

1) Sin of Omission- This is when we know God's heart and we know what He wants us to do, yet we do not do it.

2) Sin of Commission- This is an action or thought that we commit against the heart of God.

God wants us to maintain a pure heart. In order to do this, we must keep our sins confessed. As the Holy Spirit convicts you of sin, confess it immediately. Unconfessed sin in your life not only affects you, but everyone else around you.

The Bible says that we should run from even the appearance of sin. We should flee from youthful lust. Take a stand against sin today.

Daily Prayer Focus: Pray that God will reveal hidden sins that are in your life that you can confess them and He can purify your heart.

On The Go Prayer Focus: Pray for Keith and Joan and the team in South Africa to have the power and passion of Christ today.

Thank you for taking the time to pray for this important division of On The Go Ministries. For more information on any our ministries here at On The Go, you may send your questions to info@onthego.org.

You Hurt Me When You...

You Hurt Me When You...by Keith Cook

News Event: Cape Town Festival Team will be ministering in Cape Town, South Africa through February 24, 2014!

"A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger." Proverbs 15:1

What should we do when we are wronged? How should we as Christians treat those who do really bad things to us? Is there a Christian response or Biblical directive that we should follow? The answer is found in the Bible.

1. Consider Being Patient when someone is hurting you with their words or actions. You can try to overlook their transgression against you and be patient as they grow in understanding.  Being patient and not reacting when you are wronged often leads to confession and remorse from the other party.

2. Never Criticize and Complain when wronged. Some join in with the transgressor and actually sin themselves by returning evil for evil and criticizing them to others. Complaining and spreading gossip and slander never helps solve a problem. It simply ignites the flames of anger and pride.

3. Sometimes The Holy Spirit will have you Confront and Instruct. Telling someone the truth in love is hard to do especially when they are doing wrong. Showing the courage to share painful and needed directives from God will often bring people together and help bridge the gulf of indifference and confusion.

4. You may have to also Confess your part in the problem and ask for and offer your Forgiveness first. Saying I was wrong, or please forgive me is hard when you are in the middle of a fight. Yet when confession is made there is a tremendous release of joy and it literally explodes onto the situation at hand. It is so hard to be mad at someone who is saying "I am wrong too! Will you forgive me?"

5. Care and Show Love to those who do you wrong. If you do not care for others you will not even consider letting Jesus direct you as you deal with your hurts and pains. Going to Christ always helps you get the strength to show love and forgiveness when wronged.

When I was a young boy in school I was confronted by a very large and menacing young man. Right in the middle of the hallway he grabbed my shoulder, spun me around, and very loudly yelled, "Cook, I'm going to knock your head off!" As you can imagine everyone in the hallway quickly formed the inevitable circle around us to watch the fight. He was big and tall and I was a tough football player at school. This was going to be the fight of all fights.

As I looked up into his eyes and saw the anger in his heart I realized that this could go on for days. In s split second I cried out to God. I asked Him what to do, and came up with the following solution. With the entire school now looking on I strongly said to my confronter, "You probably could knock my head off. But as my head rolled down the hall it would be saying, God loves you and I forgive you."

It seemed like all the world stood still. After what felt like eternity he replied, "Cook, you're crazy!" Then he patted me on the shoulder, laughed, and walked away.

There are times to fight and times to retreat. There also are times to stand your ground and wait on God's provision.

Caring and showing love when others are only spewing anger will help you down the road to a clean heart and a clear conscience.

6. Be Cautious and careful when reacting to wrongs done to you or to others. Many times the reaction we have will cause more harm than the offense committed. A good rule of practice is to never react in the flesh or to others. Always act! Act on what you know you should do. Act on what Jesus has told you to do. Act in confidence because you are following the Bible's instructions for living.

7. Compassionately Restore the one who has wronged you as fast as possible. Do not let the sun go down on your wrath.  When you act under the direction of the Holy Spirit and let Him lead you, you can be used of God to lovingly and humbly help bring a person out of a state of rebellion and sin into a position of forgiveness and restoration. Just by allowing someone to come and ask for your forgiveness can bring healing and stability to their lives. When you do not hold a grudge or plot for revenge you can also be an instrument of grace that God will use to bless all associated with the offense.

Daily Prayer: Pray for the strength and courage to respond patiently when others wrong and criticize you. Pray for those who have wronged you today. Pray for God to bless them and heal your heart and theirs.

On The Go Prayer Focus: Keith Cook and the entire Festival Team as they minister in Cape Town, South Africa this week.  Pray for Keith, Joan, White Ribbon Day, Rick, Michael, Ben and the Team that God will give them Holy Boldness as they share from their heart the Good News of Jesus Christ.

A Heart for God

A Heart for God by Joan Cook

"But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD. This is the account of Noah. _Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God." Genesis 6:8,9

In my travels, I have the opportunity to see the mighty power and awesomeness of God at work in so many peoples' lives.  Unfortunately, the works of Satan are also alive and well.  Sin and evil are rampant today, as in the days of Noah. In Genesis 6, the Bible says that God was actually sorry that He had made man and was grieved in His heart.  Evil had enveloped the earth and man had chosen the things of the world rather than the things of God.  How sad to think that Almighty God was sorry He had created man!  The Bible goes on to say that God looked around the earth and found one man in whom He was pleased.  That man was Noah.  Noah had found favor in God's eyes.  WOW!  Can you imagine being the one person on the entire earth that had found favor with God.

In today's society, we know sin is rampant.  You've only to look at the headlines of your local newspaper to find that man's heart is not for God, but for self.  We know Satan is at work in this old world and daily he is trying to infest man with the disease called sin.  But, we have reason to rejoice!  God is looking for men and women who have a heart for Him. What made God take notice of Noah and single him out?  Let's look and see:

1. Noah found favor with God (Gen. 6:8)

What exactly is favor?  Webster defines favor as a kind, friendly and gracious attitude. Remember God was sorry He had made man, but when He looked at Noah, He had a kind, friendly and gracious attitude toward him. Wow!

2. Noah was righteous (Gen. 6:9)

Usually when we think of righteousness or being righteous we think "holier than thou". Righteous really means that we meet the standards of what is right and moral. With sin so rampant, Noah was the "odd" man who stood out of the crowd. He did what was right and moral. His environment was sinful, yet he chose to be righteous.

3. Noah was blameless in his time (Gen. 6:9)

One who is blameless is someone who is innocent. Noah lived among heathens, but was innocent in all his ways. He lived in the world, but was not a part of the world.

4. Noah walked with God (Gen. 6:9)

Only two men in the entire Bible are said to have walked with God, Enoch and Noah. One of the definitions of walking means, to conduct oneself or behave in a given manner. I believe Noah behaved in a manner that was worthy. He followed or journeyed with God.

Does your life have the attributes of Noah? Are you finding favor with your Master?  Are you righteous and blameless before God?  Strive to walk with the Lord daily, being an example for others to follow.

Daily Prayer Focus: Pray that God will give you a greater heart for Him. Pray that you will find favor with God, seek to live righteously and blamelessly, and walk with God.

On The Go Prayer Focus: On The Go's Outreach Training Schools (OTS). In our OTS, young people and adults are trained to go to the next level in their service to God. Pray for On The Go as we train believers to make a difference in their generation.

There Is Still Room for More Love

There Is Still Room for More Love by Keith Cook

Happy Valentine's Day!

Take time today to celebrate the love of Jesus and the love of man. We thought this would be the best way to celebrate this Valentine's Day. True love is seen in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8, 13

Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;

Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

Charity never faileth:

And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

Daily Prayer Focus: Praise God for His unending love!

On The Go Prayer Focus: On The Go Ministry Supporters. It takes teamwork to make the dream work! Our ministry supporters have made commitments to play a vital part of our team through praying, sharing, caring, going, and growing. As our GoTeam ministers in Cape Town, South Africa this week, would you serve as a Ministry Supporter by praying for our team that God will open doors and change hearts and lives for His glory.

Thank you for taking the time to pray for this important division of On The Go Ministries. For more information on any our ministries here at On The Go, you may send your questions to info@onthego.org.

By A Razors Edge

By A Razors Edge by Keith Cook

News Event: On February 13-24, 2014, On The Go will be ministering in Cape Town, South Africa. Pray for a mighty move of God across Cape Town as the Gospel is presented. Please join us by praying for each team member - Keith and Joan Cook, Rick Willison, White Ribbon Day,
Ben Bahati, and Michael Amamieye.

Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins. Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble;  2 Petter 1:5-10 (NASB)

The other day I was in a hurry getting ready for church. I was running late and not really paying attention. I was not really focused on what I was doing. I had millions of things on my mind other than what was at hand, and to make matters worse, I was in the middle of the most critical job I had to do to get ready - Shaving!

While I was finishing up the job with a new razor in hand I noticed a few places where I had missed a spot or two and was quickly going back over those areas of my face that still were not as smooth and stubble free as needed. Without warning or any real notice I veered too close to my nose and before I knew it I had shaved off the top skin of one side of my nose. I was shocked, stunned, and embarrassed.

Right in the middle of my hurried plans to get ready for church I had a mini-catastrophe on my hands. Needless to say my plans had to be changed to reflect my present crisis mode.

Have you ever had something like this happen to you?  Out of nowhere something happens at the worst possible time?  You were not wanting it - or even deserving of the situation but - it happens anyway and you have to deal with it. Here are some observations that may help you get through through those "razors edge situations".

1. Troubles often come when we get in a hurry. Slow down and think. Tone down your activities a bit to include time for reflection  and a more controlled schedule. Take the time to plan and organize your day so you are not running behind or on empty.

2. Pay attention to everything you do. It is usually the small things that come at us that trip us up and cause so much pain and disorder. Every little detail in your life is important. If you are on a health program to get in shape or take a few pounds off you need to track every little exercise you do and every calorie you put in your body. You have to pay attention.

3. Focus on what is at hand. When you are talking with someone, listening to something, driving somewhere, writing or engaged in an activity - make sure you focus on that. There will be plenty of time to reflect, plan, or vision cast later in your day. Stay focused and give it your best. It will pay off in more productivity and success.

4. Just because your intentions are good or plans are honorable you're not guaranteed success or allowed any slack in being professional and alert. I was getting ready for church, wanting to go do good. Just simply getting ready for something I had done thousands of times. But still I had no extra grace or magic promise from the Bible that protected me from a razors edge. I personally do not want God to have to perform miracles every day to get me through my day. I want signs and wonders to follow me as I - do His work - His way - and operate in His power. While we all are guaranteed His plan and provision, we are not promised a trouble free life if we loose focus, don't pay attention, or get in a hurry.

Running to do good, preparing to minister in Jesus name, rising to the occasion, being right where Jesus wants you to be are all great desires and goals - but missing it by a razors edge should be a warning for us all that we are not immune from the troubles and dangers of life just because we are His child and servant.

Daily Prayer Focus: Pray that God will help you slow down, pay attention to matters as hand, and keep your focus!

On The Go Prayer Focus: Keith and Joan Cook and the entire Cape Town, South Africa Festival Team.  Please pray for traveling mercies as they fly out this morning.  The team will be ministering in Cape Town through Tuesday, February 25! Pray for travel mercies, "Divine Appointments," opportunities to minister, decisions for Christ, and God's will to be done.
