Jesus Refines You

Jesus Refines You by Keith Cook

"And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver." Malachi 3:3

I found this story online several years ago and it has blessed my life and the lives of many others.

Some time ago, a few ladies met to study the scriptures. While reading the third chapter of Malachi, they came upon a remarkable expression in the third verse: "And He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver." Malachi 3:3

One lady decided to visit a silversmith and that she would report to the others on what he said about the subject. She went accordingly and without telling him the reason for her visit, begged the silversmith to tell her about the process of refining silver.

After he had fully described it to her, she asked, "Sir, do you sit while the work of refining is going on?" "Oh, yes ma'am," replied the silversmith, "I must sit and watch the furnace constantly, for if the time necessary for refining is exceeded in the slightest degree, the silver will be injured."

The lady at once saw the beauty and comfort of the expression; He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver. God sees it necessary to put His children into the furnace, but His eye is steadily intent on the work of purifying. His wisdom and love are both engaged in the best manner for us. Our trials do not come at random. He will not let us be tested beyond what we can endure.

Before she left, the lady asked one final question, "How do you know when the process is complete?" "That's quite simple", replied the silversmith. "When I can see my own image in the silver, the refining process is finished."

Today as you go about your life and ministry I pray Jesus can see Himself in you.

Personal Prayer Focus: Pray that you will be used of God this week to reflect the compassion and character of God to all you meet.

On The Go Prayer Focus: Joan Cook's "Women On The Go" Ministries. Joan's "Women On The Go" programs are implemented at women's conferences, local churches, retreats, and separate stand-alone events. Stand Strong, Tear Down the Wall of Sin

Stand Strong, Tear Down the Wall of Sin by Laurie McTier

"...Joshua said to the people: 'Shout, for the LORD has given you the city!' So the people shouted when the priests blew the trumpets. And it happened when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat. Then the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city." Joshua 6:16, 20

We will never forget where we were when we saw the breaking news that many of the statutes of Sadaam Hussein had been torn down by Coalition forces and the Iraqi people. The people of Iraq have lived in fear and under dictatorship. They have been under the iron rule of an evil dictator who only sought personal gain.

As I have observed current events I am reminded of Joshua as he fought the battle of Jericho. God gave him specific battle commands. The Israelites marched around the city seven days in a row. On the seventh day, God gave them a mighty victory as they sought to remain faithful and follow His instructions. The priests blew their trumpets, the people shouted, and the walls fell flat before the army.

What walls or statutes do you have in your life. The Bible states that every man is born a sinner and has come short of the glory of God. When we put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ, He frees us from the penalty of our sin, and He forgives us and cleanses us. If we have sin in our lives, our communication line with God is broken. Sin separates us from God. Just as God tore down the walls of Jericho and the statutes of an evil dictator, He wants to tear down walls of sin in your life.

Ask God to search your heart and show you sin that is present. We must put on our spiritual armor every day to fight against the darts that Satan attempts to send our way. Stand strong, stand guard, stand faithful to God, and allow Him to reign supreme in your heart.

Personal Prayer Focus: Pray that God will destroy walls and statutes of evil that have developed in your life. Pray that He will purify your heart.

On The Go Prayer Focus: On The Go's GoCare ministry. This is our acts of kindness and benevolence ministry department. The focus of our GoCare ministry is to reach out to physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of hurting individuals and to build bridges between churches and their communities.

Thank you for taking the time to pray for this important division of On The Go Ministries. For more information on any our ministries here at On The Go, you may send your questions to info@onthego.org.

Have You Ever Been Caught in A Blackout?

Have You Ever Been Caught in A Blackout? By Keith Cook

"But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:" 1 Peter 2:9

A blackout is a time when all of the lights go off. It can be a scary situation, but rest assured, when the lights go out, God wants you to know that there is a light for you.

In the Bible we see representation of spiritual blackouts related to sin, the earth, and death.

There was a blackout where the light of God went out in men's hearts because of sin. The blackout occurred when the men no longer followed God, but their own way, their own plan, and their own agenda. It is a catastrophe to have the light of God go out in your life.

The earth was also darkened when Jesus died on the cross. Jesus took all the sins of every man, woman, and child upon Himself, and the earth became dark. Spiritual darkness was defeated then. The true light of God shown brightly on all of mankind through Jesus Christ. The death and victorious resurrection of Jesus shown the light of God on life that was possible in Heaven for all mankind. It was now possible for fallen man to walk in the revealed light of God's pathway that leads to eternity with Him. Because Jesus paid for all of the sins of the entire world real light shattered the darkness.

The Bible also speaks of the darkness of death. Everyone is assured of a time when they will one day pass from this life into another. We all will face death. It is sure and we will enter into the darkness of death. According to the scripture, we should not live in defeat because of the threat of death, but we should live victoriously in the light of God. We should not live in fear of the blackout of death, because Jesus is the Light of the World. He will shine in the darkness.

He has provided for you and He will continue to show you the path that is illuminated by His love that leads all the way through this life but on through the door of death into eternity. If you come to Him and get to really know Him, then you will have victorious peace at the blackout of death and will awaken in the light of His presence. You do not have to fear death. The light of God's Son will shine the way!

Jesus loves you and He wants you to take the three steps that leads through the darkness into real light.

1. Admit that you are a sinner and cannot save yourself.

2. Believe in Jesus Christ as God's only Son and your Savior.

3. Confess your sins before God and call upon Him to save you.

You can shine the light on your life today and vanquish the darkness by taking these three steps right now. Turn the light on by praying today. "Dear God I have sinned against you and I have a dirty sinful heart. I realize you sent Jesus Christ your Son to die on the cross, shed His blood for me, and pay for all my sins so that I may have a clean heart and eternal life. I invite Christ into my heart right now and accept Him and what He did for me. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus and cleanse it. Thank you for giving me a new life, a clean heart, and eternal life in Heaven. In Jesus name, Amen."

If you prayed to receive Jesus Christ as Your Lord and Savior today, we would love to know about it. Please email us or contact us at the phone number or address listed below. We rejoice with you in your decision to follow Christ and would like to send you some free materials which will be vital tools you can use in your walk with God.

Personal Prayer Focus: Pray that others will see the light of Christ transparent in your life and that they will be drawn to Him.

On The Go Prayer Focus: Praise God for the boldness He has given to each of our team members as they have ministered this week in Alaska. Please pray for their safe journey back home. Praise God for the victories won during our the On The Go Alaska GoTeam Outreaches!

Thank you for taking the time to pray for this important division of On The Go Ministries. For more information on any our ministries here at On The Go, you may send your questions to info@onthego.org.

Please Don't Feed The Flesh

Please Don't Feed The Flesh by Joan Cook

"For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him?  Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God." 1 Corinthians 2:11-16

To grow and develop physically, we must be well nourished. The same is true for our spiritual man.  When we're hungry, we eat, there will never be a time when you'll fill your body up so much that you won't ever be hungry again. You must eat daily. Yesterday's meal doesn't fill you up today. On the other hand, what you ate yesterday does affect your body today!

Our spiritual man is hungry! Daily we must eat! Yesterday's spiritual food doesn't fill you up for today. It certainly makes your spirit man stronger or weaker depending on what you've ingested.

When you became a Christian, you received the Holy Spirit of God living in you!
Now, you have a choice: Feed the Flesh or Feed the Spirit! There is a battle in each of us - between flesh and spirit - who are we going to feed?

When we feed the flesh, we fill up on things of the world that make us feel good. Things we want!  Filling our appetites on worldly desires without checking with our God to see if what we desire is in line with His desire for us.

When we feed the spirit, we nourish that relationship with the Lord so that we are able to have the "mind of Christ" in every situation

Materialism takes a very strong hold when we feed the flesh. It brings about discontentment, causing things to look better "over there" and cloud our thinking and vision. It taints what we have so that it looks less desirable.  It is magnetizing. When the spirit of materialism takes hold it draws you away from God and closer to the specific desire.

Consider the following parallels:

Fleshly Desire - Discontentment - Discouragement -Depression - Death

Spiritual Desire - Contentment - Encouragement - Joy - Life

"Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?"  1 Corinthians 3:16-17

Daily Prayer Focus: Pray today that you will choose spiritual desires over the flesh, contentment over discontentment, encouragement over discouragement, joy over depression, and life over death.

On The Go Prayer Focus: GoTeam Missions Projects. Pray today for On The Go's GoTeams. GoTeams are teams of young people and adults ministering throughout the world who want to make an impact in another individual's life for Christ. This week our staff will be ministering in Juneau, Alaska through carnivals/festivals, conferences, schools, and local churches. Pray for a bountiful harvest as Keith, Joan, David, Rick, and White Ribbon Day minister this week through various outreach events.

Without Jesus, We Do Not Stand a Chance

Without Jesus, We Do Not Stand a Chance by Dr. Ken Mattox, DDS

"And the Spirit and the bride say, Come! And let him who hears say, Come! And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely." Revelation 22:17

As I look back over my life, I thank God for the many times He has protected me from myself. As a child, I was stubborn, rebellious, headstrong, and sassy. I remember my mother washing my mouth out with soap for saying nasty words when I was as young as five or six years old.

I received many whippings at home and at school, and I honestly needed every one of them. I sat alone in the auditorium in isolation many days. I was expelled in the fifth grade. In the seventh or eighth grade, a teacher told me that I would be in prison by the time I was twenty.

There are times in our lives that we need to realize that our way is not God's way, and we should turn back to Him. At the age of twelve, I made my profession of faith in Christ and was baptized.

Without Jesus, we do not stand a chance. The pressures on our young people today to drink alcohol, do drugs, commit fornication, lie, steal, and cheat are unbelievable! There's a void in our lives that only God can completely fill. Without Him, we fill it with everything else that is evil.

Christ's death and persecution paid the ultimate sacrifice for our sin debt. The Bible reads in Hebrews 4:16 that the gift of life and God's love are offered freely to all who will receive. Come boldly before God today and make your petitions known unto Him. The fact still remains, without Him, we do not stand a chance.

(This devotion was taken as an excerpt with permission from Dr. Mattox's book entitled "A Light in the Darkness". This book contains scripture references that have impacted Dr. Mattox's life and illustrations from some of experiences on the mission field. To receive your own personal copy of his book, please contact On The Go Ministries. Dr. Mattox went home to Heaven in October, 2006. He has been such a blessing to all of us fortunate to know and minister with him. Thank you Dr. Mattox!)

Personal Prayer Focus: Praise God for His unconditional love and unending love that has been freely offered so that we might come to know Him and have an intimate relationship with Him.

On The Go Prayer Focus: Keith Cook Crusades, Celebrations, and Festivals. God has given Keith the opportunity and privilege of sharing the message of Christ both stateside and internationally. During each opportunity, Keith presents a joyful and enthusiastic, yet powerful and clear presentation of the Gospel and a call to commitment to Christ. Lounging By The Sheep Gate

Lounging By The Sheep Gate by Keith Cook

"After these things there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is in Jerusalem by the sheep gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew Bethesda, having five porticoes. In these lay a multitude of those who were sick, blind, lame, and withered, waiting for the moving of the waters; for an angel of the Lord went down at certain seasons into the pool and stirred up the water; whoever then first, after the stirring up of the water, stepped in was made well from whatever disease with which he was afflicted." John 5: 1-4 (NASB)

Jesus was on His way to a festival and passed by the Sheep Gate. He looked over at the Pool of Bethesda. It must have looked beautiful with its five massive porches spread out all around it. However, the scene was marred with masses of people who were crowded around the pool looking down at the water.

Down through the years many people had been healed at that pool when the waters were stirred. Many said the waters were stirred by an angel and when the angel stirred the waters, the first one in the pool would be healed.

Today - in our world - society lounges at the Sheep Gate.

1. They are there with massive needs. Yet they eat - drink - and play!

2. Most do not have enough discernment to know they have needs. They ridicule anyone who speaks up and talks about sin, morals, standards, or reality.

3. Many do not have a clue where to look when they do realize they have a problem. They look to presidents, politicians, social programs, trendy magazine writers, talk show hosts, and movie stars for direction and answers.

That day there were many around the pool: The Sick who were ailing, diseased, weak and void of strength. The Blind with no vision or clouded vision. The Crippled who were lame. Those who were Paralyzed.

Today we too have many who are sick. Those with tremendous PHYSICAL -  MENTAL - EMOTIONAL - SPIRITUAL needs all around us!

We must, as real followers of Jesus:

1. Take the time to pass by the pool.
2. Take a look at who is at the pool.
3. Go down to the pool and ask probing questions to discern where people really are in life.
4. Tell people the truth about being set free.

That's what Jesus did that day. He was on His way to a festival and took the time to go down to the pool - the one by the Sheep Gate. He is calling us to go to where the sheep are and tell them what the Good Shepherd has to say.

Daily Prayer Focus: Today, ask God for Divine Appointments to share with someone in need.

On The Go Prayer Focus: Keith Cook, Joan Cook, the U.S.A. Staff, and On The Go Board of Directors, as they add leadership and direction for the ongoing ministries of the Keith Cook Team and On The Go. This week our staff are ministering in Juneau, Alaska!

Called to Pray for America

Called to Pray for America by the Staff of On The Go and the Presidential Prayer Team

The Staff at On The Go Ministries, the Presidential Prayer Team, and the National Day of Prayer Task Force would like to invite you to join us in celebrating the "National Day of Prayer"!

"if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land." II Chronicles 7:14

Today is the day set aside as the National Day of Prayer across America. Prayer is a powerful weapon. Prayer can break through strongholds, which have stood firm for years. God wants His Children to become mighty, active prayer warriors!

The National Day of Prayer has a rich history, dating from the first declaration of a day of prayer and fasting that was implemented by George Washington to President Lincoln's call for prayer and fasting during the Civil War to the modern-day declaration signed into law by President Harry Truman in 1952.

Prayer is an opportunity to humbly come before God and confess all sins and to praise God for His mighty works, His gift of freedom, His mercy, and His boundless love. Through prayer, we recognize the limits of earthly power and acknowledge the sovereignty of God. Prayer leads to humility and a grateful heart, and it turns our minds to the needs of others.

As our nation looks to the future, the need for prayer remains high. This year the National Day of Prayer Task Force has chosen Seven Centers of Influence to help us stay focused and intentional as we pray for America.

Select Prayer Focus:

Use this list to guide and direct your prayer time. As you pray for the individuals listed, pray that they will be given godly wisdom and guidance, great strength and divine protection in the key positions they hold. Remember, especially, our troops who safeguard freedom overseas.

1.  Pray for Government. Pray for our local, state, and national leaders asking God to grant them wisdom, discernment, and hearts that are open to His Leading. Pray for your elected officials, their spouses, and their children.

2.  Pray for the Churches and Church Leaders throughout our nation and in your community. Ask God to preserve and protect them as He inspires and empowers them to equip His "Saints" for the work of ministry, for the building up of the Church, and the spreading of the Gospel.

3.  Pray for our Military and its leaders. Pray for God to grant courage, protection, and strength for our service men and women, and their families as they serve our country.

4.  Pray for families in our nation, your state, and your community. God's model for the family is being challenged, and we are seeing families fall apart before our very eyes. Pray with passion for the Lord to protect and to strengthen marriages, encourage parents toward His priorities, heal relationships, and secure His values in their homes.

5.  Pray for Education. Pray for God's presence in our schools, colleges, and universities. Ask Him to select teachers and administrators who honor His statutes and protect our children, and inspire them to discover their God-given calling.

6.  Pray for Media.  Pray for Christian Influence in the media industry, from movies, television, and radio stations, to newspaper and magazine publishers.  Ask the Lord to provide Godly men and women to work in, and influence the media throughout our nation, your state, and your city.

7.  Pray for Business. Pray for Divine Intervention in our national, state, and local economies.  Ask God to raise up godly business leaders and create industry to provide honest employment and generous provision for our individuals and families in each community.

Suggested  Prayer for The National Day of Prayer

That is our prayer for America today.  "Lord of the Universe. Lord of this planet. Lord of the nations. Lord of our hearts. On this National Day of Prayer, we look to You...In the darkness, You are our Light. In the storm, You are our Anchor. In our weakness, You are our Strength. In our grief, You are our Comfort. In our despair, You are our Hope. In our confusion, You are our Wisdom. In time of terrorism, You are our Shield. In time of war, You are our Peace. In times of uncertainty, You are the Rock on which we stand.

We make our prayer to You using the words of the prophet Daniel: "O Lord, You are the great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant of love with those who love Him and keep His commandments. You are merciful and forgiving. You are righteous, but this day we are covered with shame because we have sinned against You, and done wrong. We have turned away from Your commands and principles. We have turned away from You. Yet You have promised in 2 Chronicles 7, that if we-a people identified with You-would humble ourselves, pray, seek Your face, and turn from our wicked ways, then You would hear our prayer, forgive our sin and heal our land."

So we choose to stop pointing our finger at the sins of others, and examine our own hearts and lives. We choose to acknowledge our own sin-our neglect and defiance and ignorance and even rejection of You. This day we choose to repent. In response to our heartfelt repentance, God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, Father of Jesus Christ, in keeping with all Your righteous acts and according to Your promise, turn away Your anger and Your wrath from the United States of America. Hear the prayers and petitions offered to You on this National Day of Prayer, as we give You our full attention. Give ear, our God, and hear; open Your eyes and see. We do not make requests of You because we are righteous, but because of Your great mercy. For the glory of Your Name hear our prayer, forgive our sin, and heal our land. We ask this in the name of Your Son Jesus Christ who offers us salvation from Your judgment, forgiveness for our sin, and reconciliation with You through His own blood shed on the Cross. Amen."

- 2014 National Prayer by Anne Graham Lotz, Honorary Chairperson 2014

Suggested Prayer Scriptures:

Use these scripture verses to set the tone for your observance of The National Day of Prayer.

"Since prayer is at the bottom of all this, what I want mostly is for men to pray--not shaking angry fists at enemies but raising holy hands to God."  1 Timothy 2:8

"I urge then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving, be made for everyone - for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives, in all godliness and holiness. This is good and pleases God our Savior."  I Timothy 2:1-3a

"Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." James 5:16

"In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express." Romans 8:26

"And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints." Ephesians 6:18

"Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains." Colossians 4:2,3

"The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble.  He cares for those who trust in Him" Nahum 1:7

"Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,"  Ephesians 3:20
