A Tribute to My Mother

A Tribute to My Mother by Keith Cook Jr.

"This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success." Joshua 1:8

Praise God for godly mothers! When I think of my mom, Joan Cook, I think of a woman who has such a heart for God and wants to honor Him in every way! My mother is certainly a vivid picture of the Proverbs 31 woman.

"Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised." Proverbs 31:28-30

Throughout my life, my mother has sought to be a godly woman and tend to every need in our home. Often times she was up long into the night and early in the morning to make sure that my dad and I had all that we needed.

One attribute that I have always admired in my mother is that she follows the example of Christ and many of the prophets who sought after God with all their heart. Christ would arise early and seclude Himself from the crowd so that He could spend quality time with His Father. These times brought Him strength, hope, and encouragement. Throughout my life, my mother has set an example for my dad and I in that she begins each day in the Word and in prayer.

Before my mother does anything else, she seeks to spend time with the Lord. This has served to build discipline in my life to spend time with God as well. My mother is also a teacher. She often shares with us the truths and lessons that God reveals to her during her personal time with God. I look forward to these moments and have grown to cherish them.

I can remember as a young boy and now that I am older as I arise in the morning to begin my day, I always know exactly where my mom can be found. It is in the dining room on the sofa nested in God's Word. I know that my mother has spent hours praying for my dad and I. We will never know the full impact that these prayers have had, for we can see just a glimpse of what God is doing!

Thank you Mom for setting for me a godly example. I love you!

My Mother

 My Mother by Joan Cook

"I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the LORD. For his whole life he will be given over to the LORD." 1 Samuel 1:27, 28

I am the youngest of five children. I have a sister, Peggy; a brother, Larry; a brother, David; and a sister, Janis. My mom had her hands full! As I was growing up, my mother worked outside the home. She worked as a church secretary and then a head teller in a bank as she raised her five children. Then, she became a trooper for the Mississippi Highway Patrol. Yes, she carried a gun!

My mother was a strong woman. She's always had to be! You see, my father was an alcoholic and had another life apart from his family's on many occasions. But, my Mom was always there! She worked to keep food on the table, clothes on our backs, and a roof over our head. She worked hard to make sure her children had everything they needed.

I can't remember a year when she did not take us on a vacation. I grew up in South Mississippi, but every year she would take us to the beach in Destin, the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, or Disney World in Orlando. She always managed to have fun with her children.

More than anything else, my mother instilled in me a love for Jesus Christ. She trusted in Him and taught us to do the same. She taught me that I had to put feet to my faith. She taught me that I could not stand by and ask God for something unless I was willing to do my part. She also taught me that the only way to true joy was to be in the center of God's will.

I have learned so much from my mother and I hope I have handed down some of her wisdom to my son. This Mother's Day, I want to say thank you to my mom! Thank you for always being there for me! Thank you for loving me and teaching me to love the Lord!

Personal Prayer Focus: Praise God for godly mothers who have made eternal investments in their children's lives.

Jesus Refines You

Jesus Refines You by Keith Cook

"And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver." Malachi 3:3

I found this story online several years ago and it has blessed my life and the lives of many others.

Some time ago, a few ladies met to study the scriptures. While reading the third chapter of Malachi, they came upon a remarkable expression in the third verse: "And He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver." Malachi 3:3

One lady decided to visit a silversmith and that she would report to the others on what he said about the subject. She went accordingly and without telling him the reason for her visit, begged the silversmith to tell her about the process of refining silver.

After he had fully described it to her, she asked, "Sir, do you sit while the work of refining is going on?" "Oh, yes ma'am," replied the silversmith, "I must sit and watch the furnace constantly, for if the time necessary for refining is exceeded in the slightest degree, the silver will be injured."

The lady at once saw the beauty and comfort of the expression; He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver. God sees it necessary to put His children into the furnace, but His eye is steadily intent on the work of purifying. His wisdom and love are both engaged in the best manner for us. Our trials do not come at random. He will not let us be tested beyond what we can endure.

Before she left, the lady asked one final question, "How do you know when the process is complete?" "That's quite simple", replied the silversmith. "When I can see my own image in the silver, the refining process is finished."

Today as you go about your life and ministry I pray Jesus can see Himself in you.

Personal Prayer Focus: Pray that you will be used of God this week to reflect the compassion and character of God to all you meet.

Called to Pray - National Day of Prayer

Called to Pray - National Day of Prayer by the Staff of On The Go and the Presidential Prayer Team

The Staff at On The Go Ministries, the Presidential Prayer Team, and the National Day of Prayer Task Force would like to invite you to join us in celebrating the "National Day of Prayer"!

"Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."  2 Corinthians 3:17:

"if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14

Today is the day set aside as the National Day of Prayer across America. Prayer is a powerful weapon. Prayer can break through strongholds, which have stood firm for years. God wants His Children to become mighty, active prayer warriors! The National Day of Prayer theme this year is Lord Pour Out Your Love, Life, and Liberty. The mission of the National Day of Prayer is mobilize unified public prayer for America.

The National Day of Prayer has a rich history, dating from the first declaration of a day of prayer and fasting that was implemented by George Washington to President Lincoln's call for prayer and fasting during the Civil War to the modern-day declaration signed into law by President Harry Truman in 1952. As we pray for America whose pledge of allegiance states that we are "one nation under God," and whose currency states that it is "in God we trust," we want Americans to encounter the God who rules over their country.

Prayer is an opportunity to humbly come before God and confess all sins and to praise God for His mighty works, His gift of freedom, His mercy, and His boundless love. Through prayer, we recognize the limits of earthly power and acknowledge the sovereignty of God. Prayer leads to humility and a grateful heart, and it turns our minds to the needs of others.

As our nation looks to the future, the need for prayer remains high. This year the National Day of Prayer Task Force has chosen Seven  Centers of Influence in Our Nation to help us stay focused and intentional as we Pray God's Glory Across the Earth.

Suggested  Prayer for The National Day of Prayer

Lord, we look up and see the billions of stars You created, and we praise You. We look around and see the billions of people You created in Your image; uniquely, fearfully, wonderfully, and we thank You. Wrap us in Your Spirit and unite us in Your family, Lord.

Thank You for loving us first. In Your love for the whole world, You sent Your Son to save us.

Jesus, in You alone we have abundant and everlasting life. Thank you for teaching and leading us to love and live, fruitful, and faithful. In Your life, death, resurrection, and ascension You are our Lord, our love, our life, and our liberty. You came to "bind up the broken- hearted, To proclaim liberty to captives and freedom to prisoners." You have freed us from the penalty and shame of our sin; free to live life as You designed and Your destiny for our Nation.

Spirit search us, convict us, as we repent for our sin and the sins of America. Please cleanse, fill, and send us. We rejoice, knowing that Your forgiveness makes us acceptable and effective vessels for Your love, life and liberty in our family, church, education, workplace, military, government, art, entertainment, and media.

We pray that America will be united in love to serve You with all our hearts, all our ways, and all of our days. Unite us to pray, love; to live and walk by the Spirit. Conform and transform us as we pray and proclaim, "Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."

We pray this is the name of Jesus, Amen.

Called to Pray

Called to Pray by the Staff of On The Go and the Presidential Prayer Team

The Staff at On The Go Ministries and the Presidential Prayer Team would like to invite you to join us in celebrating the "National Day of Prayer"!

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." Philippians 4:6

Tomorrow is the day set aside as the National Day of Prayer across America. God is the only hope for America. Prayer is a powerful weapon. Prayer can break through strongholds, which have stood firm for years. God wants His Children to become mighty, active prayer warriors!  It is an unprecedented opportunity to see the Lord's healing and renewing power made manifest as we call on citizens to humbly come before His throne. The mission of the National Day of Prayer is mobilizes unified public prayer for America.

In times when our thoughts are often full of anxiety, please know that God never changes. "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever." Hebrews 13:8 Prayer is an opportunity to praise God for His mighty works, His gift of freedom, His mercy, and His boundless love. He is sovereign and nothing comes as a surprise to Him. Prayer taps into God's wisdom, strength, protection, and peace. His Glory shines and is spread across America as we humble ourselves in prayer and exalt Him in praise.

Our theme for 2021 is Lord Pour Out Your Love, Life, and Liberty. To further highlight our theme, we've chosen 2 Corinthians 3:17: "Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty." Through prayer, we are able to tap into His wisdom, strength, power, protection, and peace. He stands ready to respond to our needs when we humbly ask for His divine intervention.

At this crucial time for our nation, we can do nothing more important than pray.  Thank you in advance for making this spiritual discipline a personal priority and for standing with us as we encourage others to incorporate prayer in their lives.  The Lord has graciously anointed our efforts, empowering them to touch and change many hearts and lives.  Through prayer, we are able to tap into His wisdom, strength, protection, and peace. He stands ready to respond to our needs when we humbly ask for divine intervention in the affairs of men.

He is the One who gave us this promise in 2 Chronicles 7:14: "If my people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land." As we humbly and diligently seek Him, we'll be changed, and we'll see transformation in America through prayer!

If you are not already a member of The Presidential Prayer Team, we encourage you to show your support by joining this important prayer effort today. The goal of The Presidential Prayer Team is to mobilize 1% of the U.S. population, or 3.3 million people, to commit to pray daily for the President, his cabinet and our nation. This year the Presidential Prayer Team would like to invite you to join millions of praying Americans praying online for our nation.

To learn how you can join this history-making effort, visit The Presidential Prayer Team at www.presidentialprayerteam.org.  It is an unprecedented opportunity to see the Lord's healing and renewing power made manifest as we call on citizens to humbly come before His throne.

"Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable--if there is any moral excellence and if there is any praise--dwell on these things." Philippians 4:8

"He appointed military officers over the people and assembled them before him in the square at the city gate and encouraged them with these words: 'Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater power with us than with him. With him is only the arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles.'" 2 Chronicles 32:6-8

Seven

 Seven by Keith Cook

"and God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done." Exodus 2:3

The number seven means complete, perfect, and whole. It is the sign that all is good. As Christians God wants each day to be exciting and fulfilling for us. In a spiritual way every day is to be "Perfect" in that Christ is to lead us and direct us in all we are to do.

Here are some perfect - whole - complete, things you can count on:

1. Love is perfect - True love is never jealous, boastful, proud, or wants it's own way over others.

2. Your Commitment to your family and friends is perfect - Being in a family is forever. You have a past and future together.

3. Knowing you have the power to meet each day In Christ is perfect - Your hope is not in riches or governments but in Christ.

4. Your potential to be Successful is perfect - God promised you that you will have "your portion" to do His will all of your days.

5. God's Love for you is perfect - Never forget that Jesus loves you no matter what you do.

6. Forgiveness is perfect - Do not let bitterness and anger rob you of your joy.

7. Faith and Trust in Christ is perfect - Place all your faith in Jesus to save you, lead you, and keep you. You will not be disappointed.

Love, commit, trust, hope, rely, and rest in Christ's perfect will for your life.

Personal Prayer Focus: Pray that you will walk in unity with Christ's perfect will.

On The Go Prayer Focus: The GoTeam Short Term Missions Projects and GoTeam Members. GoTeams are made up of young people and adults who voluntarily go on an On The Go mission project around the world and are making a strategic impact for Christ.

Please Don't Feed The Flesh

Please Don't Feed The Flesh by Joan Cook

"For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him?  Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God." 1 Corinthians 2:11-16

To grow and develop physically, we must be well nourished. The same is true for our spiritual man.  When we're hungry, we eat, there will never be a time when you'll fill your body up so much that you won't ever be hungry again. You must eat daily. Yesterday's meal doesn't fill you up today. On the other hand, what you ate yesterday does affect your body today!

Our spiritual man is hungry! Daily we must eat! Yesterday's spiritual food doesn't fill you up for today. It certainly makes your spirit man stronger or weaker depending on what you've ingested.

When you became a Christian, you received the Holy Spirit of God living in you!

Now, you have a choice: Feed the Flesh or Feed the Spirit! There is a battle in each of us - between flesh and spirit - who are we going to feed?

When we feed the flesh, we fill up on things of the world that make us feel good. Things we want!  Filling our appetites on worldly desires without checking with our God to see if what we desire is in line with His desire for us.

When we feed the spirit, we nourish that relationship with the Lord so that we are able to have the "mind of Christ" in every situation

Materialism takes a very strong hold when we feed the flesh. It brings about discontentment, causing things to look better "over there" and cloud our thinking and vision. It taints what we have so that it looks less desirable.  It is magnetizing. When the spirit of materialism takes hold it draws you away from God and closer to the specific desire.

Consider the following parallels:

Fleshly Desire - Discontentment - Discouragement - Depression - Death

Spiritual Desire - Contentment - Encouragement - Joy - Life

"Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?"  1 Corinthians 3:16-17

Daily Prayer Focus: Pray today that you will choose spiritual desires over the flesh, contentment over discontentment, encouragement over discouragement, joy over depression, and life over death.

On The Go Prayer Focus: Keith Cook Crusades, Celebrations, and Festivals. God has given Keith the opportunity and privilege of sharing the message of Christ both stateside and internationally. During each opportunity, Keith presents a joyful and enthusiastic, yet powerful and clear presentation of the Gospel and a call to commitment to Christ.
