Called to Pray

Called to Pray by the Staff of On The Go and the Presidential Prayer Team

The Staff at On The Go Ministries and the Presidential Prayer Team would like to invite you to join us in celebrating the "National Day of Prayer"!

"I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone-for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth." I Timothy 2:1-4

"The nations will put their hope in His name."  Matt. 12:21

Tomorrow is the day set aside as the National Day of Prayer across America. Prayer is a powerful weapon. Prayer can break through strongholds, which have stood firm for years. God wants His Children to become mighty, active prayer warriors!

The National Day of Prayer has a rich history, dating from the first declaration of a day of prayer and fasting that was implemented by George Washington to President Lincoln's call for prayer and fasting during the Civil War to the modern-day declaration signed into law by President Harry Truman in 1952.

Prayer is an opportunity to praise God for His mighty works, His gift of freedom, His mercy, and His boundless love. Through prayer, we recognize the limits of earthly power and acknowledge the sovereignty of God. Prayer leads to humility and a grateful heart, and it turns our minds to the needs of others.

As our nation looks to the future, the need for prayer remains high. The worldwide growth of democracy and significant domestic issues all signal the importance of prayer for this season in the life of our nation and our president. You can help by giving your prayer support to the important effort of the National Day of Prayer.

If you are not already a member of The Presidential Prayer Team, we encourage you to show your support by joining this important prayer effort today. The goal of The Presidential Prayer Team is to mobilize 1% of the U.S. population, or 2.8 million people, to commit to pray daily for the President, his cabinet and our nation. This year the Presidential Prayer Team would like to invite you to join millions of praying Americans praying online for our nation. To learn how you can join this history-making effort, visit The Presidential Prayer Team at www.presidentialprayerteam.org.

Suggested  Prayer for The National Day of Prayer

"Father, we come to You to pray for our nation, the United States of America. How You have blessed us through the years, Lord! We rightly sing, "America, America. God shed His grace on thee." Yet we see trouble in our culture today. We see the breakdown of the family, crippling addictions, and random acts of horrific violence. Lord, we need your help in America. In recent days, we have done our best to remove Your Word and Your counsel from our courtrooms, classrooms and culture. It seems, as President Lincoln once said, that we may have "forgotten God." But Lord, You have not forgotten us! You can bless and help and revive our country again.

Scripture tells us that "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people" (Proverbs 14:34). Father, in Your mercy we ask that You would exalt our country again. We have had a number of great awakenings in America. We have experienced times of refreshing, and revivals that changed not only the spiritual but also the moral landscape. As the psalmist said, "Will You not revive us again so that Your people may rejoice in You?" (Psalm 85:6)

That is our prayer for America today, Lord. Send a mighty spiritual awakening that will turn the hearts of men and women, boys and girls back to you. You have told us if we will humble ourselves and pray and seek Your face and turn from our wicked ways, that You will forgive our sins and heal our land (2 Chronicles 7:14). Forgive us today, Lord, and heal this troubled land that we love so much. We ask all of this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen."  2013 Honorary Chairman:  Greg Laurie

Suggested Prayer Scriptures:

Use these scripture verses to set the tone for your observance of The National Day of Prayer.

"He is here: the One who forms the mountains, creates the wind, and reveals His thoughts to man, the One who makes the dawn out of darkness and strides on the heights of the earth. Yahweh, the God of Hosts, is His name."  Amos 4:13

"Will You not revive us again so that Your people may rejoice in You?" Psalm 85:6

"and My people who are called by My name humble themselves, pray and seek My face, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land. " 2 Chronicles 7:14

"I urge then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving, be made for everyone - for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives, in all godliness and holiness. This is good and pleases God our Savior."  I Timothy 2:1-3a

"The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble.  He cares for those who trust in Him" Nahum 1:7

"Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting" Psalm 139:23-24

"Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said I will confess my transgressions to the Lord and you forgave the guilt of my sin" Psalm 32:5

"Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." James 5:16
